“The Perfect French Holiday”
Last Spring, my husband and I embarked on what ended up being one of our favorite vacations. This would not have been the case had it not been for our travel hosts, Kevin and Patty McGoff. Without them, we would have simply been tourists, noses in our iPhones, searching for Trip Advisor tips, etc. To begin, we flew into Paris (CDG), spent two nights in the City of Lights (cannot fathom a better way to get over jet lag), took the fast train to Avignon, and were met on the train platform by Kevin and Patty who were smiling and holding up a sign with our names on it. K&P then whisked us away in their private car to our pre-arranged well-appointed, well-located apartment in the must experience Provence village of L’isle-Sur-la-Sorgue.
We immediately felt like we belonged when strolling through the town with K&P. They are fluent in French, and they introduced us to their friends: ex-pat neighbors, the wine guy, the bread guy, and the shop keepers who all made us feel wanted and special. We joked with Kevin that he should run for mayor as he seems to know everyone. Because of these introductions, when we ventured out later on our own in la-Sorgue, we were remembered, and treated like friends. K&P arranged a fascinating itinerary of the surrounding Vaucluse and Luberon areas for us during our week-long stay. The McGoffs were our personal travel guides who drove us to interesting sites while relating the history of the area. We never could have found these places, or had these experiences, on our own. Highlights of our trip include: *Sunday Market Day in la-Sorgue is required. Our apartment balcony overlooked part of the village and we had an amazing jazz musician below “serenading” us. *Drinks at Cafe du France in la-Sorgue. *Carrieres de Lumieres after exploring the charming town of Les Baux *Le Pont Julien. It was my birthday and they arranged a delicious picnic with wine next to the river. *Ocres Trail in Roussillion *Careening through the southern Rhone valley region, specifically Chateauneuf-du-Pape and the spunky wine seller with the best prices *Communing with Roman ruins *Visiting second hand shops with gold mines of treasures *And the list goes on! We ended our grand adventure with Kevin and Patty by boarding the local train and traveling to Marseille for our flight home. To say the least, it was, The Perfect French Holiday.

“The best trip we have taken”
This was without a doubt the best trip we have taken in our 30 years together. Not only were we treated to the most famous sites Provence has to offer but Kevin & Patty made certain our small group had an opportunity to experience the region as the locals do. Their mastery of the language coupled with the ease with which they guided us through the countryside helped make this a trip of a lifetime. The variety of each day’s adventures, the quality and inventiveness of the meals, and their attention to each detail were extraordinary.
